【Lecture Series】Keys to Economic Growth in Africa: Global Health
date : 12/27/2012
In June 2013, the 5th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V) will be held in Yokohama. At the time of the first conference in 1993, Africa was considered primarily in terms of its need for aid and assistance, but in recent years, with several countries across the continent achieving economic growth rates in excess of 10%, it has increased in importance as a potential new market. At the same time, however, many people there remain unable to enjoy aspects of life that are taken for granted here in Japan, including access to basic needs such as food, water, and medical care, and freedom from many fundamental risks to health.
In this series of lectures, we will focus on the field of health-related business at the core of Japan’s growth strategy, and welcome speakers with involvement in efforts by Japanese companies to improve health in Africa (clean water, nutrition, and healthcare) and insight into achieving sustainable growth, thus able to introduce many ideas for creative approaches ranging from social business to CSR.
We look forward to the participation of those interested in business in Africa, the healthcare industry, and potential partnerships with government and international organizations.
